Tangled Vows is a noir-infused psychological romance about broken promises, forbidden desire, and the devastating freedom that comes with refusing to live a lie.
After catching her husband with another woman, Sophie Harlow abandons London and returns to the wealthy Manchester home where she grew up. She expects distance, stability, and perhaps somewhere safe enough to decide what remains of her marriage.
Instead, she discovers that betrayal runs through the family itself.
Behind the immaculate rooms and carefully maintained gardens of the Harlow estate lies a network of affairs, compromises, and secrets everyone seems willing to tolerate as long as appearances remain untouched. Her father is hiding a relationship with someone painfully close to Sophie. Her mother has secrets of her own. Even her husband’s attempt at reconciliation proves entangled with money and the Harlow family fortune.
Unable to tolerate the hypocrisy surrounding her, Sophie begins visiting St. Callum’s, an austere Victorian church where she meets Father Daniel Cross.
Daniel has spent eight years building his identity around faith, discipline, and the vows of priesthood. Sophie arrives at precisely the moment when those certainties begin to feel less like salvation and more like starvation. What begins with confession and conversation gradually becomes an intimacy neither can comfortably name.
Their attraction forces both of them into uncomfortable territory. Sophie, surrounded by people who break promises while pretending otherwise, refuses to accept another relationship built on dishonesty. Daniel must confront a more frightening question: whether remaining faithful to a vow still has meaning when doing so requires denying the person he has become.
As the secrets inside the Harlow family finally surface and Daniel’s relationship with Sophie attracts the attention of the Church, every carefully maintained structure begins to collapse at once.
Tangled Vows is ultimately not about escaping consequences. It is about what remains after the respectable façade disappears and two people must decide whether an uncertain life lived truthfully is worth more than the identities they once promised never to abandon.
