Second Floor My bedroom was on the second floor, with a balcony that looked directly out over the fairly narrow alley. The view was actually pretty interesting. I liked the quiet street lined with houses. But there was one incident that made me never want to stay in an upstairs bedroom again.
It was already nighttime. Not too late, but the alley beside my house was deserted. It’s worth noting that the alley had very little lighting. There were only a few streetlights installed there, and even those were dim. That night, I was sitting on my balcony, sipping a warm drink because the weather was a little chilly.
That was when I saw something strange. Beneath one of the dim streetlights, I saw a creature I couldn’t explain. “It” was black, short, and had an abstract shape. It didn’t move. I also had no idea how long it had been there.
I looked at it again. Suddenly, it moved. And I saw something truly horrifying on the creature. It seemed to have a mouth. I guessed it was a mouth because of its position at the top and what looked like rows of teeth.
Oh God, I immediately went into my bedroom and locked the balcony door. I got chills when I saw it move. My mind was completely at a loss for how to explain that creature.
After that incident, I never stayed in the upstairs bedroom again.
... Guest I was home alone. My parents had gone to a family event, and I’d refused to go with them. A waste of time, I thought. Besides, being alone in the house was so peaceful. I could do whatever I wanted.
I had taken over the television near the living room. It happened to be three in the afternoon, which was when my favorite cartoon came on. I set out a comfortable mattress and pillow so I could watch it.
Five minutes into the show, I felt like someone was knocking on the front door. Hm, there hadn’t been any warning that we were expecting guests today. I always asked whenever someone was coming over, but my parents had said there wouldn’t be anyone. Still, I turned down the volume on the TV.
I decided to keep watching. The knocking stopped. Then it started again. I grew curious about who was behind the door. For a moment, I reassured myself that the front door was locked.
I got up and went to the bedroom beside the living room. I peeked through its window to see who was knocking. But there was no one there. Had they already left? I felt bad, since it could have been someone important or a neighbor who needed help. But I was also afraid it might be a stranger.
Slowly, I went back to the mattress and started watching again. I tried to enjoy the show in front of me, but my thoughts kept returning to the door.
This time, I heard the knocking again. It was a little different because the sound was very faint. I had to strain my ears to hear it properly.
I tried peeking through the gap beneath the door. There was a shadow! That meant someone was there, right?
No, I was really hesitant to open it. Not only because of what my parents had told me, but also because I wasn’t good at dealing with visitors. I was extremely awkward around other people.
What if I looked through the window again? Yeah, that was a good idea. As I approached the bedroom window, the knocking sounded louder. I pulled the curtain aside a little, and my eyes immediately widened.
It was... something incredibly tall. It was black and shaped like a human. Its legs had no gap between them. It was almost like a shadow, except it was pitch-black. The part I assumed was its head nearly touched the openings above my door. The door itself was fairly tall, around two meters.
With trembling hands, I stopped peeking. It was obvious that “it” wasn’t human. I’d never seen a ghost before, but I believed they existed.
Without making a sound, I tried to return to the TV. But I was no longer in the mood to watch, so I went into my bedroom instead.
My bedroom was far from the front door, so I felt safe. Apparently, that peace wouldn’t last long, because I heard pounding on the front door. This wasn’t faint knocking anymore. Someone was slamming against it.
I hid under the blanket, hoping whatever was outside the door would leave soon. I didn’t care whether it really was a guest or not. I was absolutely terrified.
After hiding under the blanket for a long time, I fell asleep. When I woke up, it was already nighttime, and both my parents had returned.
They didn’t ask me anything, and I didn’t want to tell them about the horrifying incident earlier, either. Yeah, it was better not to talk about it.
